Hi again,

i got myself a nice treat with the HP n36L as André showed us its running eon.

As 4 Drives weren't enogh for my media, i planted another drive in the "optical-drive" slot.

My Question is about the "hd" command showing this:

Device Serial Vendor Model Rev Temperature
------ ------ ------ ----- ---- -----------
c0t0d0p0 WMAZA3173084 ATA WDC WD20EARS-00M AB51 32 C (89 F)
c0t1d0p0 WMAZA3176921 ATA WDC WD20EARS-00M AB51 32 C (89 F)
c0t2d0p0 WMAZA3115748 ATA WDC WD20EARS-00M AB51 32 C (89 F)
c0t3d0p0 WMAZA3110852 ATA WDC WD20EARS-00M AB51 31 C (87 F)
c1t0d0p0 Kingston DataTraveler 410 PMAP None
c2d1p0 D20EARS-00MVWB0=_____WD-WMAZA3178659 9 ___WD-WMAZA3178659 - None

the 5th drive, or better that sata port does not support informations the other sas-ports do. As my system is running und the zpool creation went fine i do not have much to complain, or do i? Is this an sata port or sata driver issue?

I appreciate any help on this ;O))

Hi pkn,

Not sure why but it's probably something more to do with hd

one spec seem to say its a sata port but other findings contradict maybe mini-sas?

What kind port is the 5th connected port?

dre2kse ,

the sheet says its an internal 5-port sata, the '6th' is esata to the back.

"The four drive bays are driven by a SAS port (not highlighted in the photo), which multiplexes all the disks onto one cable."

So these are fine, just the "normal" sata-port that is supposed to provide the optocal drives is kind of messing up. I guess, HP does not support an 5-disc usage ;O(.

This AMD Southport chip can run the disks in 3 different modes

1. port 1-6 - all IDE
2. port 1-4 AHCI, 5&6 IDE
3. port 1-6 - all AHCI

HP has choosen to use mode 2. from above and hides the possibility to change that.

But there is a patch floating around (look for O41_AHCI.ZIP) which enables this part in the BIOS and you can set all 6 ports to AHCI.

This enabled my systemdisk (int. port) to run error free scrubs since then and shows the drive in the same way as the others (except the temp :-) ).
